Hey everyone, first of all, Happy Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception!
Second, I am wanting to start working in a different field. I currently working construction for my father in law. I make good money when I work and when I get paid, but I know i need to enter a different career to better support my family. I graduated college about 5 years ago and I'm wanting to go back and try to get into the medical field. I'm going to try to go to medical school, but who knows where God will actually take me.
I have always enjoyed the sciences, and in particular I have always enjoyed the human body, how it works, and just health in general. I have always learned about it, whether in school or out if school, so I figured if I'm gonna keep learning about something, I might as well make money doing it lol. So far the fields that interest me are wither family medicine or orthopedic surgery.
However, I have two little kids, an almost 4 year old and a year and a half old with a third on the way (praise God!). What is enjoy about my job now is how much time I get with my kids. We usually get done working early so I can go home and see them or run errands if I need to. I will get days off when the weather is bad because we are at the mercy of the weather. I'm really interested in pursuing a career in medicine, but I'm worried about not being able to spend time with them, and also my wife, whom I've not mentioned but still love dearly.
Anybody in this community who are doctors, how do you balance you work/home life? Anyone in the medical field in general, how do you do it? I know medicine isn't necessarily great for work/life balance, but, until God steers me elsewhere, that is what I feel called to try and do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Also, prayers for help in discerning the will of God for my life.
