Memorial of Saint Martha

O Lord, open my lips.
And my mouth shall proclaim Your praise.

📖 Today's Gospel — John 11:19–27
The Memorial of Saint Martha
Today is the Memorial of Saint Martha. In the Gospel, Martha meets Jesus after her brother's death and confesses exactly who He is.
In today's Gospel — the raising of Lazarus — we hear the voice of faith from the lips of Martha, Lazarus' sister. Jesus says to her: "Your brother will rise again," and she replies: "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
But Jesus then declares: "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live."
Martha responds with one of the most powerful professions of faith in all of Scripture: "Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, he who is coming into the world." (John 11:27)
🔥 Reflection
We remember Martha as the one bustling in the kitchen while her sister sat with Jesus. But on the worst day of her life, this same Martha says something only one other person says in all the Gospels — she confesses Jesus as the Christ, out loud, through her tears.
This is the true newness that exceeds every border: Christ pulls down the wall of death, and in Him dwells all the fullness of God, who is life — eternal life.
The raising of Lazarus is a sign of Christ's full dominion over physical death, which before God resembles sleep. But there is another death that cost Christ the hardest struggle — spiritual death and sin, which threaten the existence of every human being.
Martha did not wait for her grief to pass before going to Jesus. She ran toward Him in the middle of it. That is the invitation for today.

Lord Jesus Christ,
on this morning You call me — as You called Martha — out of my distraction, my busyness, and my grief, to stand before You and confess who You are.
You are the Resurrection. You are the Life.
I believe this not just as a doctrine, but as the anchor of my entire day.
Receive everything I do today —
my work, my words, my joys, my frustrations —
as an offering united to Your sacrifice on the Cross.
May Saint Martha intercede for me,
that I, too, would run to meet You on the road
and speak the truth of who You are,
even in my tears.
Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
